NMDC wins awards at 80th Scotch Summit 2022

The National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) recently bagged a gold and a silver medal at the 80th Scotch Summit and Scotch Awards held in the country’s capital. The 80th Scotch Summit was organized under the theme ‘State of BFSIs & PSUs’.

Important point:

  • National Mineral Development Corporation Is The Largest Iron Ore Producer In India. NMDC Is Functioning Under The Ministry Of Steel.
  • NMDC Received The Gold Medal In The Social Responsibility Category For The Project ‘Promotion Of Technical Education And Skill Development.’ This Project Was Implemented Through NMDC ITI Bhansi In Dantewada District. 
  • The Corporation Has Won Silver Award For ‘Project Kalpataru’ For ERP Implementation In The Digital Inclusion Category.
  • Scotch Prizes Are Awarded To The Winners Based On An Application On The Official Website, Presentation To The Jury, Three Rounds Of Popular Online Voting And A Second Round Of Jury Evaluation.
  • Apart From These Two Medals, NMDC Has Also Received Three Scotch – Order Of Merit Awards For ‘Project Suraksha Pratham’ For Its Remarkable Efforts Towards Smooth Digitization Of Kalpataru Project.

Assamese New Year – 2022

Bohag Bihu or Rongali Bihu is celebrated every year in the second week of April. It is one of the biggest festivals of Assam. It is also called Assamese New Year. It marks the beginning of the harvesting of the crop. This year this festival is being celebrated from 14th April to 16th April. Rongali means ‘bliss’ in the Assamese language. Apart from Rongali/Bohag Bihu, this festival is celebrated thrice a year along with Kati Bihu/Kongali Bihu and Magh Bihu or Bhogali Bihu.

About Assamese New Year:

This festival dates back to 3500 BC, it is said that people performed Agni Yagya for a good harvest. The celebration of this festival was started thousands of years ago by an agricultural tribe living in the northeastern part of the world. On the first day of Rongali Bihu, after bathing the cattle, fresh turmeric, and black lentil paste is applied to the cattle. Thus, different days of this festival are dedicated to cattle, domestic deities, handlooms, and farming implements. As the name suggests, people enjoy this festival by singing folk songs, giving each other treats and exchanging gifts.


Waterways Conclave – 2022

Recently the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) organized the Jalmarg Conclave 2022 in Dibrugarh, Assam. It aims to focus on harnessing the potential of the ecosystem of the international and domestic waterways in the North-Eastern region of India.

Important point:

  • The Conference Was Inaugurated By SarbanandaSonowal, Minister Of Ports, Shipping And Waterways, And AYUSH.
  • The Federation Of The Indian Chambers Of Commerce And Industry (FICCI) Was The Industry Partner Of This Conclave.
  • Its Main Objective Is To Fast-Track Multimodal Projects To Enhance Business Opportunities, Economic Activity, And Employment Generation In The NorthEast Region Of The Country.

Memorandum of Understanding:

  • Gauhati University And IWAI Signed An MoU On Research And Development As Well As Investment And Consultancy In Inland Waterways.
  • Brahmaputra Cracker And Polymer Limited (BCPL), Dibrugarh, And IWAI Signed An MoU For Cargo Transportation Through Inland Water Transport.
  • An MoU Was Also Signed By IWAI With Tata Steel To Transport Steel Cargo Through Inland Water Transport.

The government approved the PLI scheme

The central government has given its approval for financial assistance to 61 companies under the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme of Rs 10,683 crore for the textile sector.


Important point:

  • 67 Companies Had Applied To Take Benefits Under The PLI Scheme, In Which 61 Applications Have Been Approved.
  • The Total Investment Expected From These Accepted Applicants Is Rs 19,077 Crore. It Has An Estimated Turnover Of Rs 1,84,917 Crore Over A Period Of Five Years.
  • Investment In The Textile Sector Will Provide More Than 2 Lakh 50 Thousand Jobs.
  • This PLI Scheme Is For Man-Made Fiber (MMF) Apparel, MMF Fabric And Other Technical Textile Products.
  • Under This Scheme, Financial Assistance Will Be Provided For A Period Of Five Years, Which Will Encourage Domestic Manufacturing Of Garments.

Part of the plan: The plan is divided into two parts –

  • The First Part Has A Minimum Investment Of Rs 300 Crores And The Minimum Turnover Required Is Rs 600 Crores, Which Is To Be Achieved.
  • The Second Part Has A Minimum Investment Of Rs 100 Crore And The Minimum Turnover Required Is Rs 200 Crore, Which Is To Be Achieved.

World Voice Day – 2022

World Voice Day (WVD) is observed every year on 16 April. This day demonstrates the immense importance of voice in daily life. The theme of the VishwaAwaaz Campaign for the year 2022 is ‘Lift your voice’. The importance of the theme of this campaign was highlighted by the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS).

About this day:

  • The Day Was Initiated By A Group Of Oral Care Professionals In Brazil.
  • The First World Voice Day Was Celebrated On 16 April 1999, By The Brazilian Society Of Laryngology And Voices As ‘Brazil Voice Day’.
  • Later This Day Was Recognized As A Global Awareness Day.
  • Since 2002, The American Academy Of Otolaryngology-Head And Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS) Started Celebrating This Day On 16 April Every Year.
